Iron Flinders at Fremantle
At the lay up berth Whyalla
The Iron Flinders was the first of the two Explorer class BHP ships.
She was built at Whyalla in 1959 followed by the Iron Dampier in 1960.
My father Don Ross was Bosun on the Iron Dampier during her maiden voyage and my brother was on her also, at a different time of course but, I was the only member of the family to crew on the Iron Flinders.
